Mitsy passed away..
Jun 29Yesterday, 28 June 2010, my pet rat passed away on an age of about 3 years and a half. She died a silent death and did not suffer – she went out like a candle in the wind. Mitsy has always been our sweetheart and she was the best pet rat you ever could imagine: so very sweet, she always was there for us and she always could cheer us up. I’m adding some picture of her so she will live on on my blog too.
Mitsy, even though you aren’t here anymore, we’ll reach you.
I’ll miss you forever.

Opera Mini on the iPhone…
Apr 13Well, I must say, that is one thing I didn’t see coming.
I’m happy to see that Apple is open enough to allow another browser on the iPhone. A good evolution!
But this doesn’t change how I think about Apple: it’s a bossy, censoring company.
Remember those incidents with exploding iPhones/iPods? Apple tried to give the persons affected money to keep it “silent”.
Another thing is that Apple refused to repair an iMac because it stood in a room where people smoked. It “posed a treat to their employees”. Ridiculous.
And also, in Europe, companies are forced to give 2 years of warranty on an electric product. Apple will try to sell you an “extension of your warranty” after a year or they’ll refuse to repair your product. Which is again illegal.
Before you buy something from Apple, think about this. I tend to find them even worse than Microsoft. I’m glad I have a Windows PC, not a Mac.

Many features versus a few?
Mar 31Sometimes, you have to think what’s more important: speed or features.
This time, I’m not talking about Firefox and IE, but rather about Outlook and Thunderbird.
I’ve been using Outlook for a time now, but I’m thinking seriously of going back to Thunderbird. In fact, it’s going to be the first thing I’ll do when I get at home.
Nowadays, most decent antivirus software and antispam software works together with Thunderbird, and since all of my emails are powered by GMail, there is really no reason to keep using Outlook.
First of all, it takes a long while to start up. Seriously, I got a very powerful PC, but when that shitty piece of software is booted up, I ‘ve drunk a whole cup of tea!
And secondly, after I installed Thunderbird 3.0.4 at my stage, my eyes opened. Why am I still using that piece of shitty software? The only thing nice on it is the skin.. and even that’s boring me!
But Outlook is so slow, because it has so many features. Which most people won’t ever use.
I mean, is that a good idea? To have many features that are rarely used?
That’s what I like on Firefox… no built in Torrent-client (sorry Opera, but that’s something for my µTorrent!)… Why do you need that? Same for my emails.
So next thing I’ll do is switch over to Thunderbird. I like the Office 2007 Black skin!

Unlimited never means unlimited…
Mar 12Well, I posted a while ago that the internet limits in Belgium are finally disappearing! (for the most expensive packages… which means you got to pay at least € 70.00 to remove the limit).
The Belgian ISPs have advertised with the fact they’ll remove the limit. But that will take months…
But they’re advertising with the word Ongelimiteerd (Unlimited in Dutch). And well, in the little words you’ll read they have the rights to “lower your speed if you cross the limit often”. What limit?
Here’s something I just picked from the site of Belgacom:
Partial translation: What does ‘unlimited volume’ mean for Internet Intense?
The formula with unlimited volume is reserved for personal use. When the limit of 500 GB has been reached, the costumer can add extra volumepacks of 20 GB for free.
One of our ministers has then said that unlimited is unlimited, and he’ll give the ISPs a fine if they don’t do what they said they’ll do: offer unlimited internet. Gods, I love our ministers…
It’s actually funny why the limits are disappearing… The limits are disappearing because Microsoft filed a complaint about the fact that their movie renting service counted in the limit (and a HD movie is BIG, and with our limits well.. some people would be over their limits for just that). But the movies Belgacom and Telenet rented were not included in the limit… and well, things gone quickly since then.
Belgium is a weird country. We pay the most for internet, but we still have limits. Even without the limits, we’re still one of the most expensive countries in the world. Even the iPhone is here the most expensive in the world (it used to be forbidden to sell 2 things together – a cellphone and a mobile package was forbidden). It’s not all light and sunshine, I fear…
